Warren HS students and assistant principal recognized for their legislative efforts

June 28, 2017

Warren HS Assistant Principal Venissia Villarreal and students Albert Duran and Clarissa Milner were recognized for their efforts in the development and passage of Texas Senate Bill 1152. The “Student to Soldier” bill allows a district to excuse a student who is 17 years of age or older for up to four days for the entirety of their high school career from attending school to pursue enlistment in a branch of the U.S. armed services or Texas National Guard. Previously students fulfilling appointments for enlistment were penalized with unexcused absences. Duran and Milner testified before the Texas Senate Veterans Affairs and Border Security Committee on SB 1152 which is now law.
