Teachers make a difference every day

May 10, 2017

Teachers deserve to be appreciated every day, but May is the month when we focus on recognizing their many contributions. The Video of the Week features our middle school educators of the year.

Kevin Slater, First Year Middle School Educator of the Year, is a 6th grade math teacher at Stevenson MS and already has a style to call his own. He incorporates depth and complexity in his lessons because he believes it encourages students to think deeper while making it a fun environment.

Veteran educator Carrie Moix has been in the classroom for 20 years, and was chosen as the 2017 Middle School Educator of the Year. Although she recently transferred to the District Office as an Instructional Middle School Social Studies Specialist, she most recently taught at Folks MS as a social studies teacher. She believes that successful teaching requires building relationships with students and making a connection with the students.
