Board of Trustees

Elected by the people to govern Northside Schools, Trustees are the guardians of the public trust and, through the policies they make, are ultimately responsible for our schools. This responsibility and the accessibility of Trustees to the voters make the Board one of the purest examples of democracy in our society.

Northside Trustees represent about 208,000 households located in 355 square miles in northwest Bexar County and parts of Medina and Bandera counties. Northside continues to be the “destination” district in San Antonio for many families seeking a quality school system for their children and for employees seeking a quality place to work.

In anticipation of the soon-to-be-released preliminary district and school A-F ratings from the state, Dr. Woods has written a letter to all Northside parents and patrons. It explains the new ratings as well as expresses concerns regarding this method of rating schools and the arguments used to support it.

For the third consecutive year, the Northside Education Foundation (NEF) is one of the top ranking educational foundations in Bexar County and among the top 50 in the nation, according to a national study ranking K-12 education foundations.

Visitors to the Irene L. Chavez Excel Academy will often find confetti on the floor in the school office. It’s not cause for a custodian; it’s cause for celebration. Every time a student picks up their diploma, they are showered with confetti and an announcement of their success is made on the school intercom.

Art students at Luna MS are lending a helping hand this holiday season to the San Antonio Food Bank. The students created their own ceramic bowls to sell in a school fundraiser. University Health System is offering a convenient way for parents to stay up-to-date with their child’s immunizations. They will dispatch a mobile clinic to two NISD campuses in December. Flu shots are also available for students.

Hundreds of fine arts students will be featured in a variety of holiday concerts and performances at elementary, middle, and high school campuses throughout Northside ISD.
